Meta's Instagram API with Instagram Login does not require a Facebook Page linked to the professional account.
What you still need
- A professional account: creator or business.
- Message access for connected tools turned on in Instagram's message settings.

Why Meta added Instagram Login
Many creators run Instagram as their only platform and never needed a Facebook Page. Linking one just to use a DM tool added steps, confusion about which account owned what, and a second login to manage. Instagram Login lets the professional Instagram account stand on its own, which is simpler for creators and for the tools built on it.
Who still links a Facebook Page
Businesses that already run a Facebook Page, use Meta Business Suite, or advertise across Facebook and Instagram often keep the linked setup, because their accounts are already connected. For a creator starting fresh, there is no need to create a Page just for automation.
What the tool can and cannot see
With Instagram Login, the tool gets the permissions you approve on Instagram's screen, typically reading comments on your posts and sending messages on your behalf. It does not get your password. You can remove its access at any time from Instagram's settings for apps and websites, which also stops all automations immediately.
Is it the same API?
Both setups use Meta's official APIs, so the same messaging rules apply: one private reply per comment within 7 days, follow-ups only after a reply, and the 24-hour window. The difference is only in how you connect.
If you later add a Facebook Page
You can still create a Page later for Facebook automation. Tools that are adding Facebook features will connect it separately. Your Instagram automation does not depend on it.
